A Cross Platform and Open Source PCB Design Suite
I think KiCad is the fastest PCB design software out there. What takes me days in Cadence I can do in hours in KiCad. It's also very git-friendly, since the files are all XML. Draw, simulate, share, and have fun!

Adafruit

Lady Ada provided my first introduction into electronics design by way of her Minty-boost tutorial. I love Adafruit for their emphasis on community and willingness to share designs, examples, and expertise. They have enabled millions of creative minds to actually make what they dream up.

Pulseview pairs the best analyzer software with very affordable hardware (the 24MHz logic analyzers or even a rpi pico). You can even write your own decoders! But contributions are so slow to merge, and often sit for years. Here's some discussion about the problem.

Pro Git

This book helped me learn distributed version control and be comfortable with git on the command line. So many of my coworkers and classmates fumble around with web uploads and GUIs, not understanding the point of staging or fetching. It's way more than an "undo" button.

While you're out of the classroom, there's no reason why you can't learn a little something and enjoy yourself while you're doing it. That's the basic purpose of this site.
